Description
The Marinière, or Mariner Shirt, with its distinctive horizontal stripes, was officially officially added to the French Navy’s official uniform by regulations introduced on 27th May 1858.
That shirt consisted of 21 stripes representing Napoleon’s victories. Nowadays the number of stripes, and other details, vary according the style of the shirt.
